The Beginning
How did it start? The idea came about after the closing of Kathie McClarren's quilt shop she ran with her mother. Wanting to continue utilizing the space, she asked her friend Viola Coblentz if she would like to open a specialty grocery store. Viola grew up around Amish Country so she was thrilled. Both the Coblentz and McClarren families built the Brown Bag what it is today.
Today
In 2025, Glenn took a new job and so he and Viola moved to Mansfield. Needing someone for the day to day operations, Kathie's son Nathan McClarren started as General Manager January 2026. Nathan brings over 5 years of experience in sales, customer service, marketing, food service, and retail.
